Cello Tutor

Jack Theakston began learning the cello at the age of 6 and is a Music Scholar at The Hills Grammar School.

From the age of 9, Jack has studied with Susan Blake at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Rising Stars Program, with a scholarship. He obtained his ATCL with Distinction in 2019.

Jack also studies Organ with Philip Swanton at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Rising Stars Program and is a recipient of The Richard and Doreen Wilson Scholarship. He obtained his AMusA in early March, 2022.

He has placed in several local and international competitions, as a soloist. A couple of highlights being placed 3rd in the IAMUSICA Under 25 section in 2020 and receiving a 1st place in the Golden Classical International, plus an invitation to perform in New York in 2019.

In June 2021, Jack was invited to perform the Saint-Saens cello concerto with the Balmain Sinfonia

As cellist with the ARCO Chamber group Piccolo’s, they were selected as finalists in Strike A Chord in 2020 and 2021. In 2021 the group were prizewinners, with an ANAM residency, Bendigo Chamber Festival performance and Galston Concerts performance.

Jack has been an enthusiastic participant in many Orchestras and Chamber ensembles. He has been selected for AYO in 2020, 2021 and 2022. He is a regular guest cellist for The Institute for Australian and Chinese Arts and Culture and enjoys playing with the various Chinese instrument ensembles. Jack also frequently performs with a local quartet at weddings, Church services and other events.
