Mr Jimmy Park
Violin teacher
Jimmy Park began learning violin at age 5 through the Suzuki Method with Koen Rens in Belgium, participating in many Suzuki workshops around Europe in his early years. He later studied with Rowan Harvey in Canberra until 2014; under her tutelage he became the youngest member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, was awarded an LMusA with Distinction in Violin Performance and won several consecutive first prizes at the Canberra String Festival Eisteddfod as well as 3rd prize in the Animato International Violin Competition.
At 14 Jimmy joined the Rising Stars program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Open Academy as a scholarship holder and studied violin with renowned Associate Professor Ole Bohn, subsequently participating and winning prizes in national competitions, including First Prize at the National Youth Concerto Competition, Australian Composition Prize at the Kendall National Violin Competition and Most Promising Player Award at the Gisborne International Music Competition. During this time, Jimmy also received lessons from acclaimed Pr. Kyung Sun Lee, Stefan Jackiw and Pr. Sylvia Rosenberg.
After completing a Bachelor of Finance, Economics and Statistics with First Class Honours at the ANU, Jimmy resumes his musical studies with Pr. Bohn through a Masters of Music Studies (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium. Recent achievements include First Prize at the 2022 Princess Galyani Vadhana International Ensemble Competition as a member of the Elan Trio and 2nd Prize in the 2021 ANU Whitworth-Roach Classical Music Performance Competition, as well as successful recitals in Sydney and Oslo, Norway where he is invited to perform again in February 2023.
