Double Bass Teacher

Mr Michael McNamara began his double bass studies with his school’s music program. There his talent for the double bass was noticed by his teachers and quickly joined the school’s orchestra, string ensemble, concert band and later in the year the jazz band. In his second year of study he studied with John Keene. Throughout his study his would learn from Jeremy Fox and Marie-Louise Bethune who would guide him during his senior years of high school.

During his musical career he has played as principal bassist in orchestras such as the New South Wales Youth Orchestra, Western Sydney Youth Orchestra, The Beecroft Orchestra and Arco Music Academy Chamber Orchestra. He has also played in The Orchestra Project in Melbourne, in Carnegie Hall with the Honours Program and with the All Star program.

As a soloist, Michael has played in soirees held at his high school and by his teacher Marie-Louise Bethune where he has played pieces such as Matthew Hindson’s Yandarra, Rachmaninov’s Vocalise and Gliere’s Suite for Violin and Double Bass.

Michael is currently completing his degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Prof. Alex Henery and Kees Boersma.
