Violin Teacher (On Leave)

Tim Yu is currently at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying with Alice Waten under the Ted and Susan Meller Memorial Scholarship. He has toured Europe, America and China as part of symphony orchestras, and has participated in numerous masterclasses with world renowned musicians such as Midori, Nashville Symphony’s concertmaster Jun Iwasaki and New York Philharmonic’s concertmaster Frank Huang.

He received his L.Mus.A in 2011, was awarded the Paul McDermott Violin Scholarship in 2012 and achieved a perfect score in VCE Music Performance, receiving the Premier’s Award in 2015. He has been a recitalist for the National Youth Concerto Competition as well as a third prize holder of the 2012 Brisbane International Youth Music Festival. Performance highlights include the Mendelssohn Octet at the 2018 National Music Camp, a solo performance of Summer from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in their Meet the Orchestra series, and a nationally broadcast performance of the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto in Beijing.

Tim is also an avid player of chamber music, having recently formed a string quartet as the violinist and violist. Together they are preparing for the Henderson Travellers Scholarship which will allow them to participate in European chamber music festivals later this year.
