Jade Blanchard-Paterson (AMUSA) is a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Classical Performance (Advance Program), and studied under the tutelage of Elizabeth Layton. In 2019 she will be commencing a Masters of Music Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium, learning from Professor Goetz Richter.
Jade began the violin at the age of five, and at the age of eight she was accepted into the Australian National Academy of Music for Young Musicians in Melbourne, directed by Alice Waten. Throughout this program, she was taught by Professor Evgeny Sorkins and Leonid Zeyde. During her studies at the academy, she was given the opportunity to perform as a Concert Soloist with the ‘Pro-Musica Orchestra Melbourne’.
In 2011 upon arriving in Adelaide, Jade began studying with former Head of Strings at the Elder Conservatorium, Keith Crellin OAM. She also studied piano with Rosanne Hammer, where she received her Grade 8. She was a Single Studies Scholarship holder from 2011-2015, as well as on full music scholarship at Immanuel College until the completion of her secondary education.
Jade’s endeavours in performance have been awarded through various prizes and scholarships. These included The Jane Peters Medallion, the Music Teachers Association Award/The Grace Babara Turner Award, The Male Metropolitan Male Choir Award, and the Norwood Symphony Orchestra Prize where she was invited to perform as a soloist. She was also a finalist in the Young Virtuosi Competition, as well as a two-time winner of the Recitals Australia Competition. Through the Elder Conservatorium, Jade won The Anders and Reimers Scholarship, The Kamala Khurana Scholarship, The Catherine Anders Prize, The Arved Suzanne Kurtz Scholarship, The Gladys Lloyd Thomas Scholarship for Violin, The Eugene Alderman Scholarship and the Florence Cook Violin Prize. In her second year, Jade was given the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra.
Throughout her studies, Jade has received many masterclasses, both for solo and chamber, by some of the worlds most recognised musicians such as Michael Barenboim, Tasmin Little, Noah Bendix- Balgley, James Ehnes and Pinchas Zukerman. She has also worked with members from the Goldner String Quartet, ENSO String Quartet, Melba String Quartet, Pacifica Quartet and the Australian String Quartet and had the opportunity to perform alongside members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as part of a program run by the Elder Conservatorium.
Jade participated in the Adelaide Youth Orchestra from 2011-2015 and was positioned principle second and later Concertmaster. As part of the AdYO program, Jade participated in the AdYO String quartet and received weekly tutoring from former Australian String Quartet members, Rachel Johnson and Keith Crellin. Jade has also been involved in the Australian Youth Orchestra programs, including Young Symphonist, National Music Camp, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the elite Momentum Ensemble for Ukaria 24. As well as being concertmaster of the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra throughout her studies, she was also principle second violinist and associate concertmaster of the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Elizabeth Layton.
As a keen chamber musician, Jade is apart of the newly formed ‘Lucian Piano Trio’ where the group were invited to perform in a variety of subscription concerts in South Australia through Recitals Australia, Elder Conservatorium and Government House Adelaide.
Through her musical experiences, Jade has developed a passion for teaching both violin and piano, and aims to integrate artistry and technical proficiency in students of all levels and ages.
