About AMACO

As the first chamber orchestra ever being created in the precinct of Hurstville, Arco Music Academy Chamber Orchestra (AMACO) offers unique opportunity for musicians aged between 6 and 22 to indulge in musical creation and inspiration. This is where gifted young musicians will be nurtured and inspired. Their love for music will be shared by many and their ensemble performance skills will be developed through various genres of music. Young musicians will benefit immensely from this program and eventually be able to pursue a career in music if they wish. Orchestral music is such an important part of the musical heritage and performances by orchestral players are recognised and valued as an integral part of Australia’s cultural landscape.

Mission

AMACO is determined to offer the best possible orchestral training to young musicians joining this program. Musicians at AMACO not only develop their love for orchestral music, they also become the successors of this long tradition in the musical world. A significant artistic contribution to the Sydney society will be made by those who join AMACO.

Values

At Arco Music Academy, AMACO is committed to following its core values. These values are essential to AMACO’s daily operation, the future of music education in the Hurstville community, and what we have envisaged best for young musicians:

Education - excellent orchestral training and a good music education are keys to a successful orchestral career. At AMACO we care about the future of young musicians, and we prepare them to enter the musical world with confidence, skills and wonderful experience through our orchestral education program.

Creativity - musicians at AMACO will constantly be inspired and stimulated by music of different genres. All music selected for AMACO are tailored to the needs of young musicians. Musicians will develop their artistic understanding of ensemble performance practise and become familiar with the routine of group creativity.

Teamwork - there is no better place than an orchestra to develop the sense of working as a team from a young age. The things most musicians will learn at AMACO involves achieving the unachievable through teamwork, linking the talents for big creation through teamwork, and working towards the same aspiration for music through teamwork. Being able to work as a team will lead you into many different careers in the future. AMACO provides the platform for musicians to develop such ability and they are surely in for a good future.

Community - AMACO relies on the support and enthusiasm of musicians from Hurstville community and beyond. We recognise the importance of musical activity in making our community a much better place to be. The aim of this orchestra not only gives the best music education to young people, but also building a better community through the very people from our community.

COMMITMENT

With limited and highly sought-after places each year, it is a significant achievement to be offered a position with AMACO. Before accepting a position at AMACO, applicants must consider carefully their ability to comply with regular attendance at rehearsals (weekly training running to the NSW Public School terms calendar), concerts or any other musical activities for the whole year. Each musician is responsible for their music and attendance to ensure the successful running of orchestral rehearsals. It is our view that regular attendance is the key to getting consistent learning outcome from all students joining our orchestra.
